is mild and entirely comfortable in summers,
temperature wavering below 30º C. Winters are very
cold, and temperature dips to freezing point.

Thing to do
The best and first thing that strikes one’s
fascination is 34 km uphill drive from Dehradun to
Mussoorie. The one hour drive let one love the
exciting road routes, which are full of sharp turns
and diversions. Beyond, there are heaps to see and
indulge into while being at Mussoorie. Activities,
such as horse riding, sightseeing places like lake,
temple and beautiful peaks, and nature walk keep
travelers engaged in viewing the natural beauty of
its milieu.

Attractions
Camel's back road :
This is a 3 km stretch, enjoyable for walking and
horse ridding. One can get a spectacular view of the
sunset in the Himalayas from here. The road passes
through an old British graveyard and is named after
a rock resembling the back of a sitting camel.
Gun
Hill :
This is the second highest peak in Mussoorie,
offering an astounding view of the Himalayas, a
bird's eye view of Mussoorie and ofcourse the entire
Doon Valley. This spot may be reached through a
Ropeway ride or a 20-minute trudge up a bridle path.
During pre-independence days a gun mounted on this
top used to be fired heralding mid-day to enable
people to adjust their watches and hence this name.
Company Garden:
One of
the most popular picnic spots of Mussoorie, Company
Garden is also the most favourite picnic and
excursion spot. The artificial lake and garden
enables people enjoying Boating and Nature Walk,
respectively.
Childer's Lodge :
This
is the highest peak in Mussoorie, about 5 Kms from
the Tourist Office. One can walk or go on a horse
back for a glimpse of snow-clad mountains. It is
fascinating to get the glimpse and never lets you go
back home.
Cloud End :
The
resort is surrounded by thick deodar forest, ideally
suited for foreigners and honeymooners. The bungalow
built in 1838 by a British major was one of the
first four buildings of Mussoorie has now been
converted into a hotel. The place provides peace and
calm and is full of flora and fauna.
Jharipani Falls and Bhatta Falls :
The
Jharipani and the Bhatta Falls are two major
waterfalls of Mussoorie. Jharipani Fall is located
8.5 m from Mussoorie on the Mussoorie-Jharipani Road
and can be reached by a vehicle, up to a distance of
7 km. The rest of the journey (1.5 km) has to be
covered on foot. Bhatta Fall is located on the
Mussoorie- Dehradun Road and is an ideal spot for
bathing and picnicking.

Jwalaji Temple :
This
famous Hindu temple is located at a distance of 9 km
from Mussoorie. Dedicated to Goddess 'Durga', this
temple is situated atop the Benog Hill, at a height
of 2100 m. Enveloped by thick forests from all
sides; the temple poses a striking picture.
Moreover, one can have breathtaking view of the
Himalayan peaks, Doon Valley and the Yamuna valley
from this site.
Lal
Tibba (5 Km) :
Lal
Tibba (2438.4 m) is the highest point of Mussoorie.
There is a high power binocular kept here which
provides a close and magnificent view of snow
covered Gangotri, Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi
and Sri Kanta peaks. A television tower, which is at
Lal Tibba, has been relaying television programme
from Delhi since 12th August 1979.
In addition to the above tourists may visit Benong
Hill (7 km.), Depot Hill, Hathi Paon (6 km), Clouds
End (7 km.), Mossey fall and Bhatta fall (10 km).
Mussoorie Lake
: This newly made lake is situated on the Dehradun
road, at a distance of 6 km from Mussoorie.
Developed by the city board and the Mussoorie
Dehradun Development Authority, this lake is a
famous picnic spot of the place. With a beautiful
backdrop, the place is also famous for its
pedal-boating facilities. The lake also offers
enchanting view of Doon Valley and the surrounding
places.
Van
Chetna Kendra :
Covered with a thicket of undulating pine trees and
varicolored shrubs, Van Chetna Kendra is a popular
picnic spot of the place. It is located at a
distance of about 3 km from Mussoorie, on the Tehri
Road (by-pass). Thus, it is easily accessible from
Mussoorie by a vehicle or even on foot. The place is
also popular for exotic wildlife delights like
Ghurar, Kankar and Himalayan Peacock. |
